This happened when I was 10 years old. I'm 27 now and it still haunts me! I used to have a collection of dolls in my bedroom, all shapes and sizes. A couple of them were those ones that had the voice box inside and used to say something if you pulled the cord or pressed the button or whatever. Anyway, I never liked having so many dolls, they gave me the creeps. Most of them had been given as presents to me and my sister, and in the end we must have had about 50 of them. They all used to sit together on the floor in front of the window of our bedroom. One day, I confided in my best friend about how they gave me the creeps. I told her that it seemed like their eyes were always following me, and that they have minds of their own. She understood, and for a bit of a laugh we decided to get a tape recorder, leave it in the room, just to see if anything would end up on the tape! This was the imagination of two 10 year olds; we approached it as a game to keep us amused. We set the tape recorder just in front of the dolls and then we left the room. It was an afternoon when my parents were out so the house was deathly quiet; there would not be any outside noise or interference on the tape. My house was in a cul-de-sac as well so there wasn't any noise outside. We started the tape, and left the room for about five minutes. When we went back and listened to the tape we thought that we could hear noises on it. We heard shuffling around the tape recorder, high pitched squeaking noises, and then something knocked into the recorder. We hadn't really expected to hear anything at all and I could feel my heart pounding as we listened to this. Afterwards, we tried to nervously laugh it off and my friend went home. I went back up to my room and felt a presence in there, it was like it had always been in there but had been confirmed that day. It was that feeling of being watched. Out of curiosity I decided to repeat our little experiment. I put the tape recorder on and left the room as before. When I went back five minutes later I rewound the tape, hit play, and ,waited. At first, the same sort of sounds but then more of it and a lot louder! I could definitely hear shuffling sounds, like something moving across carpet and then those high pitched sounds again, like high voices. I was glued to the spot by this point, and wished that I had left the room before pressing play because I was standing directly opposite all these dolls. Then what I heard has stayed with me ever since - it was the unmistakable voice of something calling my name!! I swear I nearly fainted. It was not a human voice; it wasn't even the same pitch or sound, it was a metallic sound and it was LOUD, like it was shouting. It wasn't as if I could have been mistaken because whatever it was called my name three times in total. When I could finally move again I ran out of that room, and remained terrified until my parents got home. Soon after I had my parents help me store the dolls in the loft and haven't looked at them since. Each time I think it might have been my imagination I just look at the tape (I still have it) and I know that I have solid proof of what happened that day. Over the next few years lots of strange and unexplained things happened in that house; it's almost like that incident triggered something off. Perhaps it was just something that was already there, waiting to be awakened?
